A speeding ticket is what's known in insurance
circles as a "moving violation." Insurance companies
love moving violations because it gives them the opportunity
to increase your premium. Likewise, many states perform interesting
math in order to determine the cost of your ticket. In our state
the cost is fifty dollars for the first ten miles over the limit
and fifty dollars for each additional mile. Thus if you-- like
so many other motorists on our nation's highways-- prefer to
travel at Warp Factor Nine, you may have to mortgage your home
to cover the cost of the ticket and the increase in your premium.
